Five Question Friday

1. Have you ever forgotten your child in a store or at school?
Nope…not yet. :-)

2. Where did you go on your very first date? (Like…first first, not first with your spouse or current significant other!)
Wow…first date? I don’t even remember my first date with my hubby! Plus, we, Koreans, don’t go out on a date until college (well, at least the good and obedient ones *^^*) and I believe I was one of those…well, sort of. So no, I don’t really remember any “formal” first date. All I can remember is that in my junior year in high school, I sat on the bench by Nam-river with a boy that I used to have a crush on in middle school and I think he had his arms around my shoulder. Hmm…if my sisters find out about this… What a scandal! :-)

3. What’s your “silly” fear? (We’re not talking water and heights.)
I always fear that I will be a obnoxiously fat middle-aged woman. :-) I know it’s silly but really! I guess “fear” could be too strong of a word in this situation since it’s all under my control and I really don’t think I’ll ever let myself go there (or my hubby for that matter although it’ll be tricky for him to say, ‘honey, let’s lose some weight together, shall we?’ for that’s like a universal unspoken rule for men not to speak of women’s weight issue….so good luck, baby! You’d better be subtle in your ways *^^*).

4. Confrontation: do you cause it, deal with is as it comes, or run far far away?
Well, let’s see. I confront my hubby all the time so I guess I “cause it” in our relationship. With strangers, I really don’t care so I guess I “run far far away” unless somebody is being harmed and I’m not putting myself in danger by confronting. With friends and family, I tend to “deal with it as it comes” if I’m close to them and “run far far away” if I’m not close. In conclusion, it all depends on the people and situation.

I learned something from a book I read a long time ago called, “Having a Mary Spirit” by Joanna Weaver, that it’s better to carefront than confront. I guess we tend to forget the elements of love as well as patience and understanding when we confront others and it’s always easier for us when we put ourselves in others’ shoes and try to understand and sympathize with them….

5. Wood floors or carpet?
Wood floors. I don’t want to think about all the horrible “stuff” on the carpet that are just disgusting! But then, it really is the same for the wood floors unless you clean them religiously. So I guess what I prefer is any floor type that comes with a maid! :-)

Five Question Friday

1. Where did you meet your spouse and did you instantly know it was love?
Wal-mart on the first day of my graduate school. Obviously, I didn’t know it was love at first sight, especially with his mother next to him! :-) He claims that he saw me at our graduate school orientation but I had no clue. After all, they all looked the same to me. :-) It took a while before we started dating though and I didn’t even know he liked me until my girlfriends locked me in the car one day and refused to let me out until I “confess” we were in a relationship. Go figure….

2. What is your favorite room in your house?
These days? My bedroom because my big bed is in there and me likie naps and sleep muchos~ :-)

3. Can you wiggle your ears?
Can’t everybody?

4. What is your evening ritual?
Put on my pj’s at 8pm, sleep walk for about an hour or so, pretend I read in my bed for another hour or so, visit the bathroom like 10 times, take my contacts out if I remember it and then lights off. Oh, yeah, get back rub if I’m lucky enough to be awake until my hubby joins me in bed, which is my favorite part! Come to think of it…note to self: ‘ask for back rub tonight.’

5. How many hours of sleep do you need to function?
5 hours if I want to keep bumping into things and talk gibberish all day, 6 hours if I need to function like semi-normal grumpy person, 7 hours if I want to be a normal somewhat decent person, 8 hours if I want to be a pleasant person and 9 hours if I win the lottery.

1. What movie could you watch over and over again and not get tired of?
Some Jane Austen’s movies; Pride and Prejudice, Emma, Sense and Sensibility and Persuasion. Any version, any time. :-) Yes, they hardly even hold hands, not to mention kissing, but it’s romantic, witty and just simply entertaining!

2. What’s your biggest pet peeve right now?
People not looking at me in the eyes when I’m talking, half-paying attention to the conversation or looking around the room or other things while being talked to. I don’t care if you have little kids to take care of and that’s not an excuse!! That’s simply rude. Ask politely to hold the conversation until you take care of few things if you must. It’s called manners, people! :-)

3. If you had to describe your best friend in five words or less, what would you say?
Funny, caring, giving, honest and ADD! :-) I love you so much and you know who you are!! *^^*

4. If you did not have to worry about money or go to school, what would you do for a living?
A writer. I’ll be very poor and nobody will read my books but I’d love devoting my time to writing and do just that!

5. What is your one “splurge” item that you will always buy, no matter what the cost?
Bath and Body Works Bacterial Hand Soap! I love them and nothing can replace this. It’s kind of ridiculous to spend $3 on a hand soap (especially when you have little kiddos who thinks it’s funny to pump it out every two seconds!) and have your hubby’s hands to smell like Island Nectar or Tropical Papaya, but I love them and I think my hands deserve indulgences like that. To be honest, I tried other cheaper brands but they are nothing like Bath and Body Works brand and I always go back to them. So, no, I will never give them up! :-)

1. What’s on the top of your holiday wish list and why?
World peace. I’m serious! Fine, if I was going to be selfish about it, I’d say a house with pool, which has a master bedroom located as far from other rooms as possible. Our house is just too noisy. Yes, it’s WISH, not reality but I’m sure Santa can make it happen! :-)

2. What is your favorite Christmas gift from the past?
So many! But if I have to pick one, I’m going to say Country Artists Butterfly Fairies Figurines. I started to collect them few years ago and it’s always on my wish list and my hubby never fails to get them for me every year. They are just so lovely to look at and now, I’m going to need a display shelf to store them!

3. If you had life to do over, what would you be when you grow up?
Pianist.

4. When do you put up your tree?
Normally on the weekend after Thanksgiving Day but this year….never! :-( We’re leaving for our Christmas vacation on Dec. 18th for about three weeks and we decided that it’d not be fun to come back to a dead Christmas tree. :-)

5. What is your favorite holiday?
Christmas!!! Well, minus all the shopping. :-) There’s no competition. My heart is just so full of so many emotions and it’s just simply lovely and divine!

1. What is the most physically painful thing that has eer happened to you?
A few years ago, my back gave up on me when I was leaving a long day of a work seminar. I remember not being able to walk and I cried driving all the way home. For a few days, I was in so much pain and I couldn’t find any position to relieve my pain. On top of that, I had a cold, which kept me sneezing constantly and I tell you, the pain every time I sneezed was very acute. I did cry like a little baby. :-( My poor hubby didn’t know what to do since he couldn’t really help me other than feeding me meds and I remember spending few days in bed sort of “unconscious.” I quit my job, which required me to do lots of traveling and attending conferences and seminars and I never went back to work since then.

Ever since then, my back hasn’t been the same. The pain comes and goes, which I have to treat with exercise, ice packs and occasional meds but it’s never as bad as the first time. Praise the Lord is all I’m saying! :-)

2. How much sleep do you get a night?
7-8 hours most of the time and 5-6 hours when I’m bad. :-) There’s something about reading in bed at late night when the whole world is quiet and there’s no little one hanging on my leg, going, “Mommy, Mommy, Mommy!” and I tend to lose track of time. But then, I pay for it on the next day and realize that I’m not young any more and that I need 8 hours of good sleep for my sanity and normal human behavior. *^^*

3. How long did you believe in Santa Claus? How did you find out that he does not exist?
I was always too smart to believe in that stuff. :-) Well, growing up in a country where he’s indeed a fairytale did the trick as well, I guess. However, I haven’t told my child yet but I think she said something about Daddy being the Santa Claus the other day. I knew that child was too smart for her own good! :-) By the way, she was terrified to go to “Santa Claus” when we saw him at SeaWorld yesterday. I guess no picture with Santa Claus this year….again. Sigh….
4.What was the last movie you saw in theater?
Toy Story 3 with the whole family including my almost 3-year-old girl. She did fantastic considering that was her first time at the movie theater (not counting the time we took her in her infant seat!) and she stayed for the entire movie and we had to sit there for ending credits as well! I’m so proud of my little girl!!

5. What do you wear to bed?
None of your business.

1. If you could be a fly on any wall, which would you choose?

I don’t want to be a fly. Period. I don’t want to know what other people say when I’m not around. Period. :-)

2. Do you budget your Christmas shopping or just get it done without budgeting?

Yup! I learned my lesson early on and we save every month so that when December comes, we have money to spend on gifts without worries and stress. Now, I’m not saying we don’t go over our budget but most of them are covered. :-)

3. What is the craziest fad diet you have ever done?

Have you met me? Hi, my name is Abi and I don’t do diet. I will exercise for hours any day to make up for the things I put in my mouth. Why deprive myself from joy of eating? I don’t see the point.

4. Is there a TV show that you have seen every episode/season of?

Parenting. I LOVE that show. It’s soooooooo funny and true! They’d better not cancel that show….EVER! :-)
5. What one song always pulls at your heart?

Butterfly Kisses by Bob Carlisle. I used to cry, thinking of my Daddy but now I cry thinking of my husband and my little girl. It’s just so sweet….

1. Who is the better cook, you or your spouse?
Me. Please, like there’s even a competition! :-) But then, I’m a stay-at-home mom and I guess I have more time to spend on cooking. Now, I must say that my hubby is so much better at making pancakes. His is so yummy~ I gave up on those a long time ago. Why get in the way of perfection, right? :-)

2. How often do you talk to your mom?
Depends, which mom are we talking cause I have lots! Probably not enough though. I’m lucky if I talk to my mom in Korea once a month but we try. I talk to my hubby’s mom probably about the same but we email each other though (actually my daughter and she email each other through me using code names and all so that I don’t understand their communication. Mind you, my daughter is not yet 3 years old). My dad’s wife, I talked to her most often, at least once a week and it’s mostly because my dad calls me twice a week so I can’t take credit for this. My godmother who is like my mother, I talked to her….wait, when was the last time I talked to her?! Crust muffin! It’s time to call her!!!

3. Are you adventurous in the kitchen or stick to the recipe?
I don’t know how to “whip up” things so I’d say I tend to stick to the recipe. I normally get ready to make dinner about 45 minutes before the actual dinner time and sometimes that’s not even enough! So you can tell how frustrating it is to see my mom (while she was visiting me from Korea in the summer) chatting, reading or doing whatever until 15 minutes prior to dinner time. But of course, voila! Dinner is always ready by the time my hubby got home. I was so jealous! I share some of her blood so surely I’ll be like her one day…well, one can always hope….

 4. Is your second toe longer than your big toe?
Yes. Isn’t yours?

5. Do you dress up for Halloween? (Bonus question: What will you be this year?)
Yes, I’m going to be a cute Asian Chic (a.k.a. myself) as usual. My daughter? She’ll be a half Asian Tinker Bell. Have you seen those? They are pretty cute, I must say. :-)

1. What is your favorite Halloween candy?
Kit Kat & Twix. I can’t wait to dig into my daughter’s trick or treat pumpkin bag filled with them! Please don’t tell her. :-)

2. Do you fold your socks?
Yes. Me no like missing sock. Make me very grumpy and feel disorganized. However, I don’t fold my hubby’s socks. Not that I don’t care about his socks but they go into his underwear drawer and they look prettier not folded. Yes, I’m weird like that. But beauty or aesthetics always go before practicality.

3. What is something that you wish you had been warned about?
Men, specifically how different and nonsensical species they are! :-)

4. What is the most significant difference between you and your significant other?
Oh, there are so many to pick from! Let’s just say I’m a woman and he is a man. We’re from different worlds. You know what I mean.

5. What are three words you would use to describe yourself? (And, just for fun…if your significant other is around, ask him/her what 3 words they would use to describe you!!)

according to moi:
  • Recovering-OCD: I’m getting so much better (especially after having a child!) but there are still times when I can’t help but have “Monk-moments.”
  • Over-the-edge-planner: If you ask my hubby, I’m a planning-extremist. Personally, you can never plan enough!
  • Funny: At least I’d like to think so.
according to my hubby: First of all, I wouldn’t dare to ask him cause he’ll have a field day on this one! Secondly, I haven’t seen him in a while (he’s too busy lately with work!) so I can’t really ask. :-) But if I were to ask him, I think he would say….
  • Hey-pretty-girl: at least that’s what he calls me all the time. :-)

**Yes, hyphenating multiple words does make it one word, according to my dictionary! :-)

1. If you could speak with a different accent, what would it be (i.e Australian, Scottish)?
Asian accent. I know! For some reason, I just can’t do Asian accent though I am an Asian! Go figure. That is why my hubby who can do all kinds of accents (this is why I’m convinced that my child will most definitely have an identity crisis since she probably doesn’t know where her Daddy actually came from with all those accents *^^*) makes fun of me. :-)

2. Can you fall asleep anywhere? (i.e floor, couch, deck)
I could and I do. But it’s normally 10-minute power nap unless I’m all cuddled in my bed.

3. Do you use public restrooms? If so, do you sit on the toilet?
Yes and yes….unless you tell me how else I can use the toilet without sitting on it (Yes, I am a girl and girls do that!)…. Yes, sometimes it’s pretty disgusting but that’s why there’s toilet seat cover and you can always take a shower when you get home if you feel yucky about it.

4. If you were stuck in an elevator for 24 hours, what celebrity would you most want to be stuck with?
I don’t think it would matter who if I’m STUCK IN AN ELEVATOR since mostly likely I’ll be panicking and close to dying!! But if I must choose, I choose my hubby (and yes, he IS a celebrity to me!) so that he can cuddle me, comfort me and pray over me. Wow…I sound like a cheesy dork!

5. Where did you & your significant other go on your 1st date?
Is it horrible to say that I don’t remember? We’ve been good friends before we started going out so I can’t really remember when our first date was. Hubby, if you are reading this and you know the answer, enlighten me please. *^^*

1. What is the first nightmare you remember?

I don’t know if it’s my first nightmare and I remember running away from things (monsters, killers, bugs, natural disasters, you name it and it all came after me!) constantly and waking up tired. I haven’t had many nightmares after some serious praying (thank you, Lord!) but still I sometimes dream about being trapped in a small enclosed space, which just freaks me out!

2. Even if you’re not a sports fan, what’s your favorite sport to play/watch?
Tennis, tennis, tennis….it’s all because of Roger Federer, or should I say my mom-in-law? :-) Though it gets really frustrating when he doesn’t win any major titles any more… :-(

3. If you could pull off one piece of trendy fashion, what would you want it to be (jeggings, hats, thigh high boots, etc.)?
If you ask my hubby, the answer will be…EVERYTHING! :-) But let’s be objective here….I don’t know, work-out clothes? Does that count? :-) I can definitely pull off a high heel though and I mean hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh heel. Now that doesn’t mean I like almost killing myself regularly with it but still I can pull it off. Now, I didn’t say my orthopedist will like me for it but hey, the beauty comes first. :-)

4. Did you make good grades in school?

I did ok when I was in Korea up to high school and then I came to this country for college and graduate school where English isn’t my first language. Believe it or not, I did better in this country. What do you think that means?  Is it too easy in this country and did I get smarter? I let you be the judge of that. :-)

5. What magazines do you subscribe to?
It depends on what my airline mileage allows me to subscribe to or my friends’ kids school fundraisers. :-) Currently, FamilyFun (thank you, Jackie!), Shape (don’t ask), Better Homes and Gardens (love it!) and Good Housekeeping (what does this say about me?). My favorite is Real Simple magazine though my subscription just ran out. :-(
