#11 Crazy Love: overwhelmed by a relentless God

I got to know about Francis Chan, a pastor of Cornerstone Church in Simi Valley, California, through few sermons I’ve watched at a Bible study in my church.  He was very well spoken and I liked the fact that he had an Asian background just like yours truly. :-)  It was very natural for me to decide to read his book since I liked his messages in the video sermons a lot.

Crazy Love contains no new messages that we haven’t heard before nor did the author add any new concepts or teachings to God’s word.  It was straight-forward and spoke of God’s words exactly as they were written in the Bible.  I loved reading this book and loved what God was doing in my heart throughout 200 pages of Crazy Love!  This book indeed made me look inside of me and search for any selfishness and impurity in my heart.  It made me realize how I am one of the lukewarm Christians – who seek control, safety and the absence of suffering – Chan was talking about and how I should be “obsessed” with my Father in heaven by crazy loving Him and be obedient and do exactly what He commanded!

I do love Jesus with all my heart but it’s about time that I fall crazy in love with Him and stay crazy in love to the point where I’m totally, completely, wholly,  exclusively, perfectly, utterly, wholeheartedly, consummately and unconditionally obsessed with Him!

It’s crazy if you think about it. The God of the universe — the Creator of nitrogen and pine needles, galaxies and e-minor — loves us with a radical, unconditional, self-sacrificing love. And what is our typical response? We go to church, sing songs, and try not to cuss.  Whether you’ve verbalized it yet or not . . . we all know something’s wrong.  Does something deep inside your heart long to break free from the status quo? Are you hungry for an authentic faith that addresses the problems of our world with tangible, even radical, solutions? God is calling you to a passionate love relationship with Himself. Because the answer to religious complacency isn’t working harder at a list of do’s and don’ts — it’s falling in love with God. And once you encounter His love, as Francis describes it, you will never be the same.  Because when you’re wildly in love with someone, it changes everything.

“With an urgency that seeks to awaken a sleeping church mired in the comfort of middle ground, Crazy Love gets to the heart of the matter and leaves you wanting more — more of the matchless Jesus who offers radical life for all.”  — LOUIS GIGLIO, director of Passion conferences
